Sources
This is the full list of what this site reads. It is short on purpose. A source that is not on it does not become a brief, however loud it is.
Everything published here begins at one of the sources below. If a result reaches this site through a news article rather than through its primary source, it does not get published, however widely it is being reported.
Preprints
Where results appear first, with the caveats still attached. Read the abstract and the limitations section before anything written about it.
- arXiv, quant-ph The primary feed. Filtered, not read in full.
Filter: Keyword filter applied to titles and abstracts: surface code, qLDPC, logical qubit, below threshold, error correction cycle, magic state, distillation, gate fidelity, coherence time, resource estimate, classical simulation of, refutation of quantum advantage. Anything that matches is a candidate; matching is not approval.
Software repositories
Tooling changes what practitioners can do, and repositories are the primary source for it. Release notes and changelogs, not blog coverage.
Filter: Releases only, and only where the change alters what a practitioner can run: a new compilation pass, a change to error mitigation, a change in hardware access, a deprecation that breaks existing circuits.
Laboratory and vendor technical pages
Read for technical documentation, calibration data, and papers. Not read for press releases, which are excluded even when they appear on the same domain.
- IBM Quantum Documentation and device calibration data.
- Google Quantum AI Publications and technical write-ups.
- Quantinuum Hardware specifications and papers.
- IonQ research Research output only.
- QuEra Neutral-atom hardware results.
- PsiQuantum Photonic architecture and resource estimates.
Filter: A technical page qualifies only if it contains a measurement or links to a paper that does. A roadmap is not a measurement.
Standards bodies
Read narrowly, and only where a hardware result or a resource estimate changes the picture.
- NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography Consulted only when a resource estimate or a status change is tied to hardware. Migration guidance on its own is not a hardware result.
Excluded, without exception
- News wires and technology pressSecondary descriptions. The primary source is available; read that.
- Press releases and partnership announcementsNo measurement, and written to be quoted rather than checked.
- Stock coverage and analyst notesNot evidence about a machine. Out of scope permanently.
- Funding rounds, contracts, and hiringCommercially real, technically empty.
- Conference marketing and vendor benchmark claimsBenchmarks selected by the party being benchmarked. Serious benchmark papers are read as preprints instead.
- Quantum sensing, QKD, and quantum networkingDifferent fields with different evidence standards. Out of scope unless the operator explicitly overrides.
- Quantum plus AI claims with no specific experimentTwo subjects, no measurement.
The three gates
Being on the allowlist is not sufficient. A candidate also has to carry a new number or an inspectable result, tie to hardware or to error, and come from the primary source rather than a description of it. Anything that fails one of those three is dropped, and the reason is recorded.
